Speech Pathology

At Nurture Allied Health SA, we prioritise a client-centered approach, working closely with families and caregivers to set meaningful goals. We collaborate with Occupational Therapists and other professionals as needed to provide holistic care. Our interventions are play-based, strengths-focused, and tailored to meet the sensory, emotional, and learning preferences of each individual.

The Nurture team provides Speech Therapy for children in Adelaide. Early intervention in speech pathology is crucial for children who are experiencing speech and language difficulties. The earlier the intervention, the better the outcomes for the. Speech pathologists can work with children and their families to identify and address any issues, providing support and strategies to improve communication skills.

At Nurture Allied Health SA, our Speech Pathologists are passionate about supporting children and young adults to thrive in their communication, social interaction, and daily life skills. We believe in a neurodiversity-affirming approach that celebrates individuality and focuses on building meaningful, functional skills tailored to each person’s unique strengths and needs.​ Our Speech Pathologists work across a broad range of areas, including but not limited to:

1. Speech Sound Development​

We support individuals who have difficulty pronouncing sounds clearly or are unintelligible to others. This may include addressing speech sound disorders such as:

​

  • Articulation difficulties

  • Phonological processing challenges

  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech

 

2. Language Development

Language skills are fundamental to effective communication. We help develop and enhance:

  • Expressive language: Formulating sentences, storytelling, and vocabulary use

  • Receptive language: Understanding instructions, questions, and conversations

  • Pragmatic language: Social communication and adapting language to different situations

 

3. Social Communication

We work with individuals to build confidence and competence in:

  • Understanding differences in neurotypical and neurodivergent communication

  • Knowledge of neurotypical and neurodivergent social cues and non-verbal communication

  • Engaging in conversations and maintaining relationships

  • Problem-solving and navigating social dynamic​

4. Self Advocacy

We support individuals to work on their capacity to

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and embraces their autistic identity (which includes autistic play and social communication styles) to prevent masking.

  • Advocate for themselves to have their sensory, emotional and/or environmental needs met

 

5. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)​

To support an individual's communication, we offer support with AAC systems, including:

  • Key Word Sign

  • High-tech devices with speech-generating capabilities such as Proloquo, Proloquo2go, LAMP WFL, TouchChat, and TD snap.

  • Customized low-tech communication tools such as PODD or communication boards. ​​

 

6. Fluency (Stuttering)​

We provide evidence-based strategies to support individuals who stutter, helping them communicate with confidence and ease in everyday situations.

 

7. Literacy skills

 

Our Speech Pathologists address literacy challenges, focusing on areas such as:

  • Phonological awareness (e.g., recognizing sounds in words)

  • Reading comprehension

  • Writing skills, including spelling and grammar
